New Year Marks Launch of GraniteOne Health

(Manchester, NH – January 4, 2017) – With all necessary regulatory and board approvals in hand, operations of GraniteOne Health are underway. This affiliation between Catholic Medical Center (CMC), Huggins Hospital and Monadnock Community Hospital (MCH) was cleared by the state’s Antitrust Bureau last month and the three hospitals’ boards recently approved the Board of Trustees for GraniteOne Health. The new organization will enable the hospitals to grow their clinical relationships, build economies of scale, and improve value to patients.

“GraniteOne Health will model healthcare for the future in New Hampshire,” said CMC President and CEO Joseph Pepe, MD. “As the marketplace changes around us, we’re working to maximize the strengths of our three trusted hospitals to ensure greater access to high-quality services for all of our patients.”

GraniteOne Health’s Board of Trustees (biographies attached) is comprised of 11 members – seven appointed by CMC, two representing Huggins Hospital and two representing Monadnock Community Hospital. Dr. Pepe, in addition to his role at CMC, will serve as CEO of GraniteOne Health.

Both Huggins and Monadnock have long-standing clinical relationships with CMC in specialty areas such as cardiology and vascular care. GraniteOne allows the hospitals to explore further collaborations in clinical areas as well as other services that could benefit from economies of scale, all while maintaining a seamless patient experience.

CMC Appointed Board Members:

Maria Mongan – Maria recently retired as an Area Vice President for Verizon Communications, overseeing the $1 billion revenue stream for national wholesale local delivery services. She has a significant level of advanced management training and leadership experience. She currently serves as Chairman of Catholic Medical Center Board of Directors and Chairman of the External Nominating Committee of Northeast Delta Dental. She is also on the Advisory Council of the Palace Theater. Maria’s past board service includes President of the Manchester Boys and Girls Club, Vice President of the VNA of Greater Manchester, the Greater Manchester YMCA, the Executive Committee of the New Hampshire Institute of Art, and Key Bank.

Rick Botnick – Rick is the Vice President of Botnick / 5 Ventures Inc. and President and CEO of E&R Laundry & Dry Cleaners, which services more than 100 higher learning institutions in the New England Area. Rick is a current member and past Chair of the Catholic Medical Center Board of Directors. He is also the past Chairman of the Board for the Manchester Community Resource Center and has been involved with numerous fundraising events throughout the community including the American Heart Association, Pan Mass Challenge (Team Emma), the Currier Museum of Art, and the CMC Gala among others.

Andy Crews – Andy is the President and CEO of AutoFair Automotive Group, the TIME Auto Dealer of the Year for 2015. He has significantly expanded the AutoFair family of dealerships
and businesses. Both personally and through his business, Andy has supported the community in many ways. He has been instrumental in the development of Manchester’s first home for integrated drug treatment and recovery, the Hope for New Hampshire Recovery Manchester Community Center. He sits on the board of several non-profit groups including Palace Theatre Board of Trustees and Granite State Children’s Alliance. Andy is the Vice-Chair of Primary Bank, past Chair of the New Hampshire Automotive Dealers Association, past Chair of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, and is a founding member and sits on the Board of Directors of the Live Free or Die Alliance. Andy was the 2016 Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.

Joseph Graham- Joe is the President of iHeartMedia New Hampshire, a multimedia and entertainment company that includes radio stations WGIR-AM and WGIR-FM. Under his leadership, iHeartMedia has been recognized for outstanding community service, including the 2016 Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce Large Business of the Year and the Boy Scouts of America Daniel Webster Council 2016 Distinguished Corporate Citizen. Individually, Joe is a current or past member on the boards of the New Hampshire Association of Broadcasters, the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce, Speedway Children’s Charities, the Manchester Sports Council, Catholic Medical Center, and the Shoreline Foundation of the CT YMCA.

Matthew Albuquerque – Matthew Albuquerque is an ABC-certified prosthetist and orthotist with over twenty-five years of experience in the field. Matt is the founder and president of Next Step Bionics & Prosthetics, Inc. and plays an integral part in the development of advanced upper-extremity technologies, working as a prosthetic consultant for Dean Kamen and designing the interface used for the DARPA-funded DEKA Luke Arm project. He is on the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, a graduate of the Leadership Greater Manchester program, the former chairperson for Easter Seals’ Veterans Count Advisory Board, and a past member of the New Hampshire State Veterans’ Cemetery Board of Directors. Matt stays involved with Veterans Count, and he volunteers as a Little League and basketball coach.

Marie McKay – Marie is a CPA and the managing principal of Bigelow & Company, a large and respected accounting firm with offices in Manchester and Portsmouth, NH, which she joined more than thirty years ago. Marie is currently a board member with Primary Bank and the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, as well as a member and past President of the New Hampshire Society of Certified Public Accountants. She is also a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and treasurer of the Stark Mill Condominium Owners Association. Previously, Marie was a board member with Centrix Bank, the NH Charitable Foundation, the New Hampshire Political Library and Kids Voting New Hampshire.

Keith Stahl, M.D. – Keith is the Executive Medical Director for CMC Primary Care and Population Health, having been with Catholic Medical Center since 1994 and serving in many leadership roles at the hospital. In addition to being a member of the CMC Board of Directors, Keith is an elder at Bedford Presbyterian Church, a member of the New England Comparative Effectiveness Advisory Council, and is an Associate Professor at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. He has received several professional and military honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the CMC President’s Award.

Ex-officio Board Members:

Joseph Pepe, M.D., CEO, System Parent and as President & CEO, CMC – Dr. Pepe is the President and CEO of CMC Healthcare System which includes Catholic Medical Center, the New England Heart and Vascular Institute, and several subsidiaries including physician practices and an ambulatory surgery partnership with 30 physicians. Dr. Pepe previously served as CMC’s Chief Medical Officer and is a board-certified internist in practice over 20 years. His service includes the St. Anselm College Board of Trustees, NH Hospital Association Board of Directors, Granite Health Board of Directors, NH Guild of Catholic Healthcare Professionals Board of Directors, St. Peter’s Home Board of Trustees, Bedford Ambulatory Surgical Associates, LLC. Board of Trustees, Regional Policy Board of the American Hospital Association, and the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund Board.

Alexander J. Walker, Esq., Designee of the CMC President & CEO – Alex is the Executive Vice President of Operations & Strategic Development at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester. Prior to joining CMC in 2012, Alex served as President and Chairman of Devine, Millimet & Branch, one of New Hampshire’s largest law firms. Alex currently serves on the University of New Hampshire System Board of Trustees, the Board of Directors of the Business & Industry Association of New Hampshire, the Crotched Mountain Foundation Board of Trustees, and the New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts. He is a past Chairman of: the Palace Theatre Board of Trustees, the Board of Directors of Granite United Way, and the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce. He is a recipient of the 2016 Pastoral Counseling Services Good Samaritan Award and a recipient of the Harvard Pilgrim HealthCare Foundation’s Community Spirit Award. He has also served on the New Hampshire Bar Association’s Board of Governors, the New Hampshire Supreme Court’s Access to Justice Commission, the Board of Directors of City Year – New Hampshire.

Huggins Hospital Appointed Board Member:

Leslie N.H. MacLeod – Les is a recently retired Professor of Health Management & Policy at the University of New Hampshire, where he has been involved in teaching and research since 2006. He was the President of Huggins Hospital for 25 years where he oversaw numerous advancements in healthcare, as well as its designation as a Critical Access Hospital in 2005. He has been a member of the hospital’s Board of Trustees since 2013 and Vice Chairman since 2014. Les is a Life Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, has been certified as a Healthcare Quality Professional, and holds advanced degrees in healthcare administration, public health, and evaluative clinical sciences. He is a Trustee Emeritus and past Chair of the New Hampshire Hospital Association and has also served as Chair of the American Hospital Association’s Council on Rural Hospitals, Chair of the New Hampshire Rural Health Coalition, and Vice Chair of Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.

Huggins Hospital Ex-officio Board Member:

Jeremy Roberge, CPA, President & CEO of Huggins Hospital – Jeremy is the President and CEO of Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. He previously held the role of Chief Financial Officer at Huggins Hospital beginning in 2012. Prior to Huggins Hospital, Jeremy’s career focused on financial and operational improvement in rural community hospitals and physician practices in New Hampshire’s Coös County. He began his career as a Certified Public Accountant specializing in healthcare audits and finances. He was also a member of the Army National Guard. Jeremy is currently President of the Sugar Hill Retirement Community Board of Directors and serves on the Board of the Wentworth Economic Development Corporation. In 2016, Jeremy was recognized as one of the “50 Critical Access Hospital CEOs to Know” in the nation by Becker’s Hospital Review.

Monadnock Community Hospital Appointed Board Member:

Marcia Ober – Marcia graduated from Indiana University with an AB in Liberal Arts and a K-12 Teaching Certificate. She earned a Master’s in English and an Administrative K-12 Certificate from Northwestern University. She taught high school students in Illinois for twenty-two years and was an administrator for two more. After retiring with her husband Nathaniel to New Ipswich in 1986, Marcia was an Adjunct Professor of English at Fitchburg State College for nine years. In New Ipswich, she served as a Selectman, a Mascenic School Board member, as a member of the Finance Committee, and as a Supervisor of the Checklist. She also served on the State Committee on Aging. She is Vice Chair of the MCH Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Philanthropy Committee, and a member of the Quality Council with Monadnock Community Hospital.

Monadnock Community Hospital Ex-officio Board Member:

Cynthia K. McGuire, FACHE, President & CEO of Monadnock Community Hospital – Cynthia joined Monadnock Community Hospital as President and CEO in February of 2014. She has over 25 years of experience working in a variety of healthcare settings, and was most recently the Chief Operating Officer with Adirondack Health based in Saranac Lake, NY. Cynthia has a Master of Science Degree in Healthcare Administration from Sage Graduate School in Troy, NY. She is certified as a Healthcare Quality Professional and is a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives. She has served on many nonprofit boards over the last several years including the Russell Sage Evening College Alumni Board of Trustees, , the Schenectady YMCA and the Capital District YMCA, the Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake, N.Y., the Adirondack Housing Development Corporation and the NYS Health Care Managers Association (ACHE Chapter). Cynthia currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the New Hampshire Hospital Association Board and as alternate delegate and member of the Section Small or Rural Hospitals Regional Policy Board 1 of the American Hospital Association.
